Does it matter whether I choose 'debit' or 'credit' when I use my debit card?
Some merchants will have a preference, but in most cases the choice is up to you.
If you choose 'debit,' you will be asked to enter your PIN to approve the purchase.
If you choose 'credit,' you will be asked to sign a sales receipt as your approval.
In either case, the transaction is presented against the balance in your checking account.

How can I avoid ATM fees?
Certain Cape Cod Cooperative Bank accounts (NOW Checking, Regular Checking, CapeLife Account Checking) do not assess foreign ATM fees [fees charged by Cape Cod Cooperative when you use another bank's ATM.] However, the foreign bank will often assess a surcharge to use their ATM. This can be avoided by looking for an ATM in the SUM Program. Many banks (particularly in New England) have ATMs that belong to the SUM surcharge-free alliance and do not charge a surcharge. When using ATMs other than those owned by Cape Cod Cooperative Bank, look to see if they are a member of the SUM alliance by looking for the SUM logo.

If you are in Florida, you can use the ATMs in the Publix Supermarkets and not be surcharged as we are members of the Presto! Alliance.

Another way to avoid ATM fees is to request “cash back” at merchant locations. This will save you from stopping at an ATM.
